Welcome to our SPE student chapter, if you are new here let me quickly introduce you to what we do and who we are. We are part of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, an international organization with the goal to disseminate information and provide a networking platform. Our chapter’s goal is meant to introduce students to the industry through different activities as well as providing networking, social events and much more. We provide plenty opportunities every year to meet professionals and learn about the industry first hand. Alternatively, the chapter puts on several social events on campus where you can meet your fellow students outside the classroom and connect with your chapter officers. Do you want to see the industry in action? Join us on our field trips to active oil fields or various company facilities and learn more about our industry. Every year our chapter provides several opportunities for our members to visit active sites and see the industry at work.
Throughout the semester company representatives will visit us on campus to give short introductions to their companies and talk about their work. In some cases, these visits are coupled with on-campus interviews or young professional lectures.
The student chapter frequently invites experienced and distinguished professionals to give presentations in their area of expertise and answer students questions. Another type of lecture we organize invites recent graduates, so-called young professionals; their presentations are less technical and mainly focus on the life as a professional. In addition to these live events SPE organizes webinars, where students all around the world can attend a presentation simultaneously and learn more about various topics.
One of the most important activities organized by the chapter are trips to different conferences in Europe and around the world. These conferences provide ample opportunity to meet students from other universities and learn more about our industry. If interested students are able to submit their own work and potentially present their findings in front of peers and professionals.
Do you know the industry better than your peers? Join our Petrobowl team and prove it, join a team of 5 students that competes internationally with other student teams for the title. The competition consists of two major events, the qualifiers and the finals. Like several other opportunities provided by SPE these events provide a great opportunity to meet new friends and to learn factoids about the industry you may not have known.
The chapter tries to engage students on campus at social events instead of just lectures and seminars. There are varying events ranging from the meet and greets with professionals over viewing parties for sports events to a weekly football hour. The student chapter aims to engage all our members and provide a rewarding experience for everyone.
